Personal History of Squadron Leader William John Johnson
mostly referred to as Johnny Johnson but by his mother’s family as Jack Johnson and by the early RAF as Bill Johnson so as not to be confused with the other Johnnie Johnson

Here is a brief history by date

15 Jul 1919    William John Johnson born to Florence Ruth Mutum and Ronald Johnson who were then living at 11 London Road, Brandon, Suffolk.

3 Aug 1919    Baptised in Methodist Church in Brandon.

21 May 1931-37 - Northampton Town & County Grammar School.
1936 - Oxford School Certificate with credits in English and Maths, passes in Geography, French, General Science and History.
School Prefect, House Captain, 1st XI cricket colours and 1st XV rugby colours.

1936               Monotype Printing Machine Operator - obtained Monotype Operator and Technical Certificate.

1937               Accepted as playing member of Lords Cricket ground staff  (Middlesex) - never taken up due to parents opposition to insecurity of position. 

12 Apr 1937 - Sep 39 - Junior Clerk and Cashier in Midland Bank, Wellingborough, Northants. (Living at 16, Wantage Road Northampton when he started work)

1938-39         Part time correspondence course for Institute of Bankers.  Pt 1 passed in English and book-keeping (1938) and Economics and industrial geography (1939).
