Tutors and staff

Vacancies. We are always looking for tutors. We seek people who enjoy working with children and adults who have reading and spelling difficulties. We would especially like to hear from anybody who has been a teacher or classroom assistant. Please email or telephone (01252 515348) us.

Disclosure. Staff are cleared as necessary for working closely with vulnerable people.

Christine and Alan started the centre in September 1999.

Christine is the Principal of the Centre. Christine has been teaching for over thirty years, ten of which were involved in special educational needs. She received her RSA Diploma for teaching adults and children who have dyslexia from the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre and her Certificates in Advanced Educational Studies from King Alfred’s College in Winchester. Her knowledge and experience have enabled this Centre to flourish and she has been the person who has directed the educational aspects of our programme as well as the techniques and procedures we use. She trains our tutors in the methods that are most effective for helping dyslexic students

Alan is the Manager of the Centre and Managing Director of our management company DysCypher Ltd. He has been in management for over thirty years and is qualified in Electrical Engineering and Project Management. He received an MBE in 1991 for his work for MoD during the Gulf war.

Judith, Paul, Ralph, Douglas, Jenny and Natalie are our children and most have helped us with the setting up of the centre.

Paul is our oldest son and, with his university knowledge and work experience, wrote the software program for our centre called SureSpell. This was developed on a Linux computer system in a scripting language called Perl.

Ralph is our middle son and has helped make SureSpell ‘Bill Gates’ compatible as well as developing some of the software tools we use.

Douglas is our youngest son and has helped us overcome many of our PC and networking problems.

Jenny is our middle daughter and was our first additional tutor. She has now received a BA from UCL in speech and language and is looking to beome a speech and language therapist.

Natalie is our youngest child and helped us with many of the administration tasks in the centre before moving to university.

We have about 10 tutors depending on the number of students we are working with. Each tutor is chosen for their ability to work with dyslexic people and trained in our methods and procedures
